Symplectic’s Richard Jones becomes Tech Lead for SWORD 2.0

13 July 2010

Richard Jones - Head of Repository SystemsRichard Jones, Symplectic’s Head of Repository Systems, has been appointed Technical Lead for the next phase of the JISC-funded UKOLN project SWORD.

The development of the SWORD  standard  was begun in 2007 to tackle the problem of how to allow repositories to interoperate, and to enable them to be embedded into other information systems. Supported by JISC, it has had a huge impact on the repository community.

Using open standards, open source software development and an inclusive approach to the specification, many  client and server implementations have been developed around SWORD already. It is supported natively by DSpace,  EPrints and Fedora repositories, as well as arXiv and a number of commercial  repository systems.

As Technical Lead on SWORD 2.0, Richard will be feeding back expertise gained from his work on the Repository Tools module for Symplectic Elements to advance the SWORD standard even further, and bring more benefits to the repository community.
